Researchers at NTNU are using patient-derived brain organoids (“mini-brains”) to better understand JNCL, a rare form of childhood dementia, and to test potential therapies. By comparing organoids from patients and healthy individuals, scientists can study disease mechanisms and evaluate whether new treatments, including gene therapies, can restore normal cellular function. The article highlights both the promise of organoid technology and the importance of long-term funding in accelerating the search for effective treatments.
